Feeding at the REDGroup carcass

This is what $60 worth of books looks like when the major chains in Australia implode. That fact somewhat sours an otherwise delicious haul.

A Great and Terrible Beauty, Libba Bray
Paranormalcy, Kiersten White
Before I Die, Jenny Downham,
The Eternal Kiss, Trisha Telep (Ed.)
The Betrayal of Natalie Hargrove, Lauren Kate
Iron Witch, Karen Mahoney
Wolfborn, Sue Bursztynski
Meridian, Amber Kizer
The Reformed Vampire Support Group, Catherine Jinks
Foundling, D. M. Cornish
Dreaming of Amelia, Jaclyn Moriarty
Wither, Lauren DeStefano

  1. Y'know, I just heard about the trouble Australian bookstores are having, due to everyone buying from Book Depository.

  2. *Raises hand* Guilty. It's just too easy to buy from Book Depository when it's so much cheaper and convenient. I should make an effort to buy from my local store from now on. I'm not a starving student anymore.

  3. LOVED Wither :-) And I spent $20 on 5 books at Borders on Friday ;-)

  4. But Rhiannon, I just saw you at your local bookshop buying Burn Bright! You got served by that weird, ranty salesgirl, remember? ;-)

Shall be very interested to see what you think of Wither, I keep eyeing it off but just can't seem to find the time... though if enough people say it's great I think I'll have to get myself a copy.

  5. Tez--Good to hear, I'm intrigued by it.

    Holly--That is true! I'm not a complete book-buying baddie. Only mostly :)

  6. hmm, yes I grumbled at myself for taking advantage of the closing borders in my city. I got a lot of books for my money which was very exciting but also somewhat guilt inducing! I made myself feel better by ordering in an Aussie book in an independent bookshop just after :-)

  7. As the author of one of those books I find it a little depressing, but in the end it was bad business management, NOT what they're claiming. Your local bookstore is still open, as is Reading's and Dymocks. I feel sad for the staff of those shops and I'm one of those who enjoyed going to Borders with the little ones in my family, letting them browse, reading to them and buying them a book before going to a movie at Village.

I hope you enjoy all those books, Rhiannon, especially mine! :-) For the record, it's actually done quite well - I got a very nice royalty with my first statement, something that hasn't happened to me in some time!
