Fun Stuff! Aussie bloggers, LOLs, WoWs and so on...

After the seriousness of my review of Skinned it's time to lighten up a bit.

First, a LOL:

LOL.

There's a fantastic TV show on the ABC called The First Tuesday Bookclub that I always forget to watch, but I was on their website today and saw that they did a special on Utopias and Dystopias in Literature back in July, in discussion with John Marsden (the Tomorrow series) and Emily Macguire, one of my favourite feminist authors, who wrote Princesses and Pornstars. Oh, and some other guy too. The transcript is here and the video is here.

Keeping with Aussie things, I discovered two Aussie fantasy blogs recently. Yay! The first is Terra at Terra On the Bookshelf. Terra is having a big zombiefest right now. Through her I found the The Magic Thingamajig by The Dirge of Gabriel, a squeaky new blog by a seasoned blogger devoted to fantasy reviews. The three of us bonded over a mutual love of the Study series by Snyder. Go and check them out!

Also, if you're an Aussie book blogger I want to hear from you. Two most of you will know well are Hey! Teenager of the Year by the lovely Steph Bowe (who is a Melbs girl like me!) and Persnickety Snark by Adele. Plus there's the sumptuous My Fluttering Heart by Aimee. Aimee reviews lots of fantasy and historical books.

Seeing as it's Wednesday, I should WoW something:

Possessed by Kate Cann. Feb 2010 in the US. Not sure when in Australia. I'm still waiting for Swoon, for frickssakes.

Rayne can't wait to start her summer job at a remote country mansion, far from the crowded, noisy London she so desperately wants to escape. But the retreat soon turns into a nightmare -- the mansion is creepy, the legends of ghosts keep Rayne up at night, and she doesn't feel safe anywhere.

Can Rayne figure out why she's so freaked -- before she becomes a ghost story herself?

Ghosties! I love ghosts.

I think we have time for one more LOL.

It's LOL in a can! LOLs taste like sparkling mango and apple juice, apparently. That's me and my cuz Melissa. Yes that's the same dress I'm wearing in my blog profile pic. Yes I have other dresses!

  2. PS. I heart First Tuesday Book Club so bad....I watch it all the time even though marieke's attitude really annoys me, most of the time she gets it spot-on.

And I saw the dystopian episode at the last minute - twas really interesting but I wish it went for longer. I also remember thinking at the time that YOU should be watching this, but I kept forgetting to tell youa bout it. So lucky you like the show anyway and found out about it. *sheepish*

  4. Thanks for the mention Rhiannon <3

It's a pleasure to meet a fellow Aussie Blogger, I hope we can all stay in touch! Also I'll keep a special eye out for your Study Series reviews, I'm interested in what a fellow fan has to say about them! Oh, my name is actually Gabriel, so you can drop the 'Dirge' part if you like :p
