My Library Haul (5) plus Dear eBay Gods

More fabulous reserve items that arrived for me this week! Where oh where will I find the time? For Maria V. Snyder, I'm going to make the time!

Magic Study is the sequel to Poison Study. Love love loved Poison Study (though the romance sub-plot was sadly under par) so can't wait to get stuck into the next one! Have you seen Poison Study revamped and appearing on the YA shelves? It's been repackaged for a younger market in Oz.

If I Stay has been getting rave reviews on blogs and is going to be made into a film shortly (by the director of Twilight), so I thought I'd see what the fuss was about. Tissues at the ready for this one. There's no fantasy or paranormal aspect to this but I like to break out of my comfort zone every now and then.

This ones dystopian. I think. Again, there's lots of hype around. I'm not a fan of reading a novel written in the protagonist's vernacular, but I'll see how I go.

Have I told you how much I love my libraries? I especially love being able to browse the catalogue and order online. I don't actually spend much time IN them these days!

Finally, Dear eBay Gods,

Is it too much to ask that somebody in Australia sell all four copies of Tamora Pierce's Immortals quartet, AND that nobody else notice so I can snatch them up cheaply? I'm strapped for cash here, and other girls keep outbidding me and I can hear them enjoying MY favourite books!

Sincerely,
Rhiannon

  1. That Poison series is one of my favourite series in fantasy of all time now! It's in third place after Belgariad/Mallorean and Kate Forsyth's Witches of Eileanan series. (although I always get the spelling wrong on Eileanan!).

  2. I haven't read either of those two! I really got put off fantasy for the adult market in my teens (maybe I tried to read them too early!) but I think I should try them again. I picked up the first in Ann Bishop's Daughter of the Blood trilogy recently and didn't like it. What's Belgariad/Mallorean? I might try that, and Forsyth's books.

  3. Oh, nice catch there :)

I agree with you re: the Study series - I love Maria Snyder's writing and her world of Ixia, etc, but the romance sub-plot was always the weakest part of her books (for me). Can't wat to see what you think of the rest of the series!

And I really, really enjoyed The Knife of Never Letting Go. It's hard to get into the spelling and voice of the main character, but it really grows on you. Plus, the futuristic/dystopian/sci-fi thing is always fun :)

AND finally - AHA! I thought I was the only person in the universe that really didn't like Anne Bishop's Black Jewels trilogy! Mary Sue, much? Every other review I've stumbled upon online has been gushing with fangirly praise, and I honestly don't get it.

  4. Thank goodness you agree with me Thea, I thought I was the only one! I've actually cancelled my plans for tonight because a) it's freaking cold and b) I've just reached that magical moment in The Knife where I'm hooked. I have to stay in and read it while the boy is safely at work and I can get a few solid hours in!
